Betty Coulman

Distinguished alumni Betty Coulman earned two Master’s degrees from Illinois, one in chemistry and the other in materials science and engineering. She went on to earn her Ph.D. from MatSE and started a career in research and development.

Coulman began by researching semiconductors at Philips. She eventually became a product engineer at Hewlett Packard, doing integrated circuits testing. She worked her way through the ranks to become HP’s research and development program manager.
