Form community with fellow first-year engineering students while exploring your interests and passions
Selected incoming first-year engineering students for Fall 2020 will be named GFX (Grainger First-Year Experience) Scholars. GFX has partnered with a variety of Undergraduate Programs including WIE to provide first-year experience courses to communities of students interested in a year-long program relating to one of their passions.
This scholars program allows you, the student, to form community with other engineers during your first year on campus through the exploration of specific interests. This exploratory process enhances your first-year experience by expanding your skills while also building your college resume.
Various programs will be offered through the Scholar program. Full details of offerings are detailed on the GFX website.
WIE staff will be leading two of the scholar experiences offered through the year-long scholar program: Leadership and Global Sustainability.
Application Process and Criteria
For full consideration, please apply to the University of Illinois by November 1. If you apply after the November 1 deadline, you will be considered for remaining spots in the program.
Scholars will be selected based upon academic credentials and linked interest to the selected scholar program.
Those selected as a scholar will be notified by mid-March. GFX Scholars will be able to select their preference of cohorts with final placement confirmed by the end of May.
