WIE – GFX Study Abroad Scholar

As a WIE-GFX Study Abroad Scholar, your first-year experience will be enriched by expanding your global perspective as a future engineer.

Through case studies, interactive projects, and hands-on activities, you and your cohort of fellow scholars will learn the fundamentals of sustainability and technical skills to guide you in future project work. This 1-credit hour course introduces you to the history and culture of Costa Rica, followed by a sustainability-focused project experience in Costa Rica over the winter break (tentatively January 5-14, 2020).

There is a program fee of $2,800, which includes round-trip airfare from Chicago, lodging, on-the-ground transportation costs, program activities, and most meals. You should plan to budget an additional $200 for personal expenses. Additionally, upon acceptance into the WIE-GFX Study Abroad Scholar program, you are eligible for a $500 IPENG travel scholarship. Other campus study abroad scholarships are also available. Students with financial need or other questions should contact IPENG at ipeng@illinois.edu.

In the spring semester, you will continue expanding your sustainability knowledge and global perspective through monthly meetings and sustainability work in the campus community.
