In 2018, NPRE assistant professor Shiva Abbazadeh earned a one-year grant for a research project in robotic neurosurgery.
Abbazadeh is working with colleagues at Stanford and Zhejiang University in China to develop techniques for imaging and depth sensing in brain surgery on mice. She aims to create an application that will help improve surgeons’ accuracy in making tiny incisions and injections.
“We want to make something that is low-cost, and that (surgeons) can use with a cell phone and algorithms,” Abbazadeh said.
