  2. Major & Why
    1. Maiah is passionate about sustainability and environmental issues and chose Agricultural Engineering because it allowed her to be more specific with what she wanted to do. Within Agricultural Engineering, she plans to focus on soil and water resources, and has a minor in sustainability.
  3. Life at UIUC
    1. Favorites: Maiah’s favorite thing about UIUC is that it’s easy to find a group of friends on campus and get involved right away.
    2. Why she chose UIUC: She chose UIUC because of all the opportunities she would be able to have as a freshman. From research to leadership positions to being able to take major specific classes early on, she liked how UIUC gave her the experiences she wanted to have as a freshman.
  4. Student Organizations
    1. Society of Women Engineers: Maiah is an eco-chair in the community service committee in SWE. In this role, she organizes events to teach people how to be more eco-friendly and how to get more involved with sustainability.
    2. Triathlon club: Maiah is a coordinator for the team and enjoys being a part of an activity that allows her to stay active and take a break from classes. 
  5. Extracurriculars 
    1. As a freshman, Maiah worked on research with an associate professor on campus.
  6. After Graduation
    1. While she is still exploring options, Maiah plans to work at an environmentally focused company.
  7. Advice to Freshmen
    1. Maiah’s advice is to keep a good balance between school and other activities. While it’s easy to prioritize school and neglect your other hobbies and interests, she says that maintaining a balance will make your college experience so much better.
