Mariana Kersh

Although she received her first Bachelor’s degree in English, it was no surprise that Mariana Kersh eventually became a mechanical engineer.

“My dad would say, ‘You’re going to be an engineer!’” Kersh said. “He was right. I just took the long way.”

Kersh started her Tissue Biomechanics Lab after joining the faculty at Illinois, focusing on the structural and mechanical properties of musculoskeletal tissues.

“I am studying exactly what I want to study and I get to work with surgeons and patients and orthopedic manufacturers and bring it all together,” Kersh said.
