Julia Hammond (Transferred from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology)

I chose to study MatSE because I took a biomaterials class at my previous university and loved the subject matter. I also like the broad range of industries that MatSE is applicable to, from chemical companies like The Clorox Company to automotive companies like Ford. The best thing about Illinois is the lively atmosphere of a Big 10 campus combined with a smaller, top-ranked engineering program. In a large school, it is wonderful that most of my engineering professors know their students by name, and they are genuinely concerned for each student’s success in the challenging curriculum. In terms of future plans, I will be working as an intern at The Clorox Company this upcoming summer at one of their research and development facilities.
